Waste and Recycling : Manual Handling/Waste Industry

The waste industry has particular features which make manual handling a major source of injury. In order to reduce the risks, there are three key duties to address:

  • Avoid the need for hazardous manual handling, as far as is reasonably practicable;
  • Assess the risk of injury from the hazardous manual handling that cannot be avoided; and
  • Reduce the risk of injury from hazardous manual handling as far as is reasonably practicable.
