All work equipment should be subject to regular inspection in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations and by someone who is competent to do so.  For some types of equipment, there are additional requirements for engineering inspection by a competent person.  It is usual for insurance cover against the consequences of breakdown or failure to be combined with an engineering inspection service.
